Don gave treasures report, we have $464.45 that will be less the $150 for the 501c3 and $75 for the state. So we will really have $249.45. The paperwork for the 501©3 is nearing completion. Some of our older records are somewhat confusing, but are being sorted out. It was noted that there Jim Rymes plans on building eighteen good sized Erect-a-tube hangers built at Hawthorn-Feather this year, he plans on selling them as “condos”. Dick Harrington has filed out papers as an EAA Flight Adviser, So we as a chapter will have two flight advisers and two technical counselors. We have also added a couple of more projects to our collection of projects. So we are up to five projects that I know about. Fast Day Fly-In is scheduled for April 25th. We will sell hot dogs with chili, buttons and t-shirts. Our dues are cheap, so please pay. Also to be a member you have to be a member of EAA national, so please provide your national number. For a fall fly in we will try to have it at night and coincide with the Keene Pumpkin Festival. Minutes for 02/19/04 According to the Keene AWOS the temp was at 30 degrees F with the winds from NW at 9 mph. 12 people were in attendance. This number included two guests, Cleo Miller who is vice president of EAA chapter #61 and Dennis Dobe of the Frequent Flyers Ultralight Club who gave the presentation on Ultralight flying. We started out our meeting with some builder’s reports: Dick Harrington has been working on his long-term motor glider project. He has refinished the horizontal Stabilizer and elevator with a composite masonite/fiberglass skin. He reports it as being very smooth finish. When it was to cold to work on the motorglider he worked in his smaller heated shop on the Rotax engine to his HiMax. Glenn Hunt has competed the vertical stabilizer of his Sonex, he had some pictures of himself working on the plane, and he gave me a couple of disks so that I can post some pictures! Glenn says that the cost of the Jabaru engine is getting rather expensive so he is considering the Great Plains VW engine. Warren Hurd (me) reports that he is done with the deburing of the wing skins and is ready to start dimpling. Glenn says that he will flying his Sonex by the time I am done. We then had a lively discussion about riveting. Fly-In Report: Warren gave a brief description of the Alton Bay Fly-In; it was noted that the planes land on ICE, yes ice that was untreated for traction and 30 inches thick. It was also decide to have a Fast Day Fly-In. Feature Presentation: Dennis Dobe, assisted by his daughter, then gave his great digital slide show on Ultralight Flying in the summer. He described the pleasures of Ultralight Flying along with some of the limitations. I think most people were impressed by how slow an Ultralight could really go. Dennis also described different types of Ultralights and described some of the advantages and disadvantages of the different types. It was a great show with some wonderful photographs. It just shows how a simple camera and a simple flying machine can make for a great experience to be enjoyed by many. For a sample of some of Dennis’s many digital photos see http://www.ahyup.com/ffuc/Dennis/ Treasures Report: Don Ducharme our secretary and treasurer gave the treasury balance to be $404.25. We also had a couple of people renew their dues. Then we had a discussion with Cleo Miller of chapter 61 on how to increase membership. Some hopes were pined on the Sport Pilot Proposal and better publicity of our own events. We shall try and see what we can do! Minutes for 01-15-04 The temperature was 9(F) below zero with a wind of 10 knots according to the EEN AWOS. Glenn, Ken and Warren were in attendance. Minutes for 12-22-03 were approved, as posted on the web site. http://ahyup.com/1314/Minutes/ Alton Bay fly in hosted in part by AANH will be February 15th. Warren talked about the website; it is a simple site used for recording the activities of Chapter 1314. Warren mentioned that if the airport had a wireless hot point the web site could be updated from the meeting. Wishful thinking at this point. http://www.ahyup.com/1314/ Not much talk about Chapter committees with three members present. We have two committees at present. Check the committee page to see if you are on one! http://www.ahyup.com/1314/Committees/ Ken talked about the Hanger project. We need to finish the 501©3 (of which this is a part) then we will see how much money we can get. The money will decide a hanger size and type. A hanger could be anywhere between twenty and two hundred thousand dollars. Should we build a hanger for what we need or what we could need? “If we build it they will come” philosophy. Also Ken mentioned that George Trahan is building a large hanger of which a 50’ by 50’ section is unused. It was wondered if it could be available for use by us. Discussion was made about use and priority of the proposed hanger. Preliminary thoughts for the order of preference would be. Final assembly of aircraft. Active projects in any state. Young Eagle flyers. Members aircraft. We do not want to go into competition with the city of Keene with hanger rental. For February’s meeting we will have a guest speaker, Dennis Dobe will give a photo presentation of his Ultralight flying last summer. Minutes for 12/22/03, 10 people were in attendance. Dues are due, six? (I will have to check) People have paid so far. Scott Ellsworth has volunteered to be our technical adviser, We still need a program activities chairperson. We have lots of fly in ideas but we need someone to coordinate our activities. The general consensus is we need someone that is rain adverse (water repellant?). I need to update links to our website. Atlantic flyer, Keene Airport still has links to the old site. The question of the month is do B-52’s melt the runway after a certain amount of takeoffs in a specified time period? Glenn had heard that at one time and did not know if it was true. Dick Harrington gave a talk about how the Air Force used to track military jets with radio controlled cameras. He said that instant positioning was down to six inches. Scott Ellsworth talked about aircraft pressurization and federal marshals and guns on planes. In particular he descried the ammo and what type of hole it leaves in the aircraft fuselage. Also he described what would happen if a window was shot out with different types of projectiles. Do not fear, the ammo used by air marshals is designed to leave a very small hole in the aircraft. The hole would not severely affect pressurization, and would be safe for the passengers. Scott said that even brand new aircraft have similar pressurization leaks. When tested on the ramp for pressurization you can hear the hiss of air as it leaks out of the fuselage! In other news Green River Aviation has a Brand New Diamond DA40-180 for rent for the low introductory rate of $80 an hour! |
